The White River National Forest  has many, many entrances and encompasses a mind boggling amount of acreage in Colorado.  It is north of I-70 from Vail to Steamboat to Meeker to the north, there are White River National Forest designated areas to the west of Glenwood Springs, and to its north, including the Flattops wilderness.  This forest can be reached at the end of east Divide Creek Rd on the south side of New Castle as well.

Many famous and less famous recreational areas are part of White River National Forest areas.  Hanging Lake and the Maroon Bells Wilderness areas among them.
