When you’re going south on Highway 82 from Glenwood towards Aspen, you’ll pass the hamlet of El Jebel on your left, see Willits on your right and know you’ve almost arrived in Basalt. Take the left onto 2 Rivers Rd if you want to go to the core downtown of Basalt, where you can take a left onto Midland which turns into Frying Pan Rd.
Follow Frying Pan road to Ruedi Reservoir where you can fish, sail, or camp enjoying the mountains that surround you.
To check out more information on sailing on Ruedi Reservoir check out the AspenYachtClub.
Frying Pan Rd is dotted with B and Bs where fly fisherman reserve up the weeks.
For more information on fly fishing the Frying Pan check out this diy fly fishing website.
For more information on the river itself check out the Roaring Fork Watershed’s account of the Frying Pan.
There are some nice homes on the east side of 82, and on the west side of the highway you’ll find a great neighborhood as well as Basalt High School.
Basalt is for people who don’t want to live in Aspen but still want incredible scenery, anglers, sailors, campers, or people who might want the replica of an urbane environment in some of the lofts at Willits.
Find out more about shopping, living and working at Willits here.
